The SFA Cage at Coverings: make peer learning specific enough to use

Coverings’ 2026 SFA program identifies the Cage in Central Hall, with demonstrations and networking opportunities. That combination is useful because an owner can encounter both a technique and other fabricators thinking about the same problem.

Ask for the conditions behind an experience

When another fabricator describes a change that worked, ask what their shop was doing beforehand. Team size, material mix, outsourcing and the starting process can all affect whether the example is relevant. A useful conversation does not require disclosing a customer’s private job information.

Write down the distinction between the person’s experience and your interpretation. If you intend to publish a quotation or identify the shop, obtain permission and confirm the wording. A conversation in a busy demonstration area should not become a fabricated interview later.

Choose one follow-up

The best next step may be reviewing a technical document, arranging an appropriate demonstration or comparing an existing internal procedure. Assign someone to it while the question is still fresh. Returning with several unresolved questions is useful when each has an owner.
