A slab allocated to a job eventually becomes finished parts, waste and perhaps usable remnants. If the material record remains unchanged, the next estimator may plan around stock that no longer exists in that form. Closing the record after cutting is an information task worth assigning explicitly.
Record the change of state
Preserve the original slab identifier and connect any retained remnant to it. Record its storage location and the information needed for a qualified person to assess whether it suits another job. Keep the approved image or layout history where it can be found without confusing it with currently available stock.
Assign responsibility for updating the record and for confirming the physical location. A remnant should not become available in the office merely because someone expects that a piece will remain. Availability needs to reflect the actual result and the shop’s inspection process.
Reconcile before promising
When a remnant is proposed for a new order, confirm its identity and condition through the normal material review. A previous scan supports traceability but does not establish every current detail after handling and cutting.
